Orthodontics

It deals with the correction of malpositioned or misaligned teeth or the jaws using procedures which are non-surgical

Myofunctional & Orthopeadic applianceThese are appliances which are used for growth modulation. It is given to patients between the ages of 9 - 14 years. Most of these appliances are removable. Some of the commonly used appliances are Twin block, Head gear, Chin cap, and expansion appliances.

Fixed functional appliancesThese appliances are given to patients who has 10- 15% of growth left. Mostly administered between the ages of 15- 21 years. Commonly used appliances are Advansync, Powerscope and Forsus.

Fixed Orthodontics TherapyA brace you cannot remove which is made up of brackets that are glued to the front of each tooth and linked with wires. There are different bracket systems available such as self ligating, ceramic, Damon bracket system and the normal steel brackets.

Temporary Anchorage Device (TADs)/ MiniscrewsIt is a small metal screw which is inserted through the gum into the jaw bone to act as an anchor to help move poorly positioned teeth. Some people also call them micro-screws, mini-implants or temporary anchorage devices (TADs). The most common indication for treatment with miniscrew implants is molar protraction followed by indirect anchorage for space closure, intrusion of supra-erupted teeth, intrusion of anterior open bite, anterior en-masse retraction, molar up-righting, intrusion of maxillary cant, molar distalization, traction on impacted teeth.

Retainers Retainers are appliances which are used after an active orthodontic treatment. A retainer keeps your teeth from moving after they've been straightened with braces. It can take at least four to six months for the new position of your teeth to become permanent. During that time, your teeth will try to shift back to their original position. It can be removable or fixed. Fixed retainers are placed behind the front teeth in both upper and lower jaws and will be used for life long, mostly preferred after fixed orthodontic therapy for generalized spacing cases. Removable retainers are used temporarily depending on the severity of malocclusion. A removable appliance is made from a plastic plate with wires coming from the sides (Hawley’s appliance, Wrap around retainer).Due to aesthetic reason, now a day a transparent tray made up of thermo seal material is used as retainers ( Essix retainer).

Clear alignersClear aligners are an alternative to traditional braces and are designed to help guide teeth into their proper position. Similar to braces, clear aligners use a gradual force to control tooth movement, but without metal wires or brackets. The aligners are made of a strong plastic material and are fabricated to fit each individual's mouth. If a series of aligners are needed, each aligner moves the teeth in increments until the desired movement is achieved.
